FAREHAM - the heart of South Hampshire
Fareham stretches from Port Solent at the head of Portsmouth Harbour in the east to the River Hamble in the west - and from the Solent northwards beyond the M27 to Portsdown Hill and the rural fringe of Winchester.
Fareham has grown from a small market town into a thriving business area, driven by its location and land availability. The advantages of easy access to the M27 motorway, to Europe via Southampton Airport and ferry terminals at Portsmouth and Southampton and direct access to some of the fastest Internet connections available give the area its competitive edge.
The environmental quality and recreational potential of the Borough provides high quality living conditions to support Fareham's growing business potential. Fareham has long been seen as a growth sector for South Hampshire making a substantial contribution to new housing and employment in the region. The centre of Fareham is a well established civic and commercial centre with expanding shopping floor space and range of leisure facilities.
Long established major employers within the area include Eaton Aerospace (formerly Plessey), Office of National Statistics, Schefenacker Vision (formerly Britax Wingard) and HMS Collingwood - the Royal Navy's weapon and electrical training school. New developments have attracted new business investment including Cheltenham and Gloucester, Meggitt Avionics, Blake Lapthorn Linnell, Grant Thornton, Telsis, Axalto, MicroTurbo, Zurich/Eagle Star, Exxon, Estée Lauder and Meridian Television.
The largest newcomer to the area is National Air Traffic Services (NATS) which has two major sites in west Fareham - the new en-route air traffic control centre at Swanwick and the regional technical centre at Solent Business Park. NATS now employs around 2500 people, relocated from around the South East region.
The Cams Estate complements the pattern of business parks close to motorway junctions. With Cams Hall at its centre and 27 holes of championship standard golf course within its setting, the office campus is close to M27 J11 (Fareham Central) and now accommodates a range of high-tech and web-centric companies all benefitting from the availability and access to high capacity telecomms links including: NewNet plc, Serverhouse, Iquo, DQGlobal, Taylor Made Computing Solutions, Vega, Aveva, Silicon Image, Solent Mortgate Services, Donnelly Hamilton Brent, Essential Skills Unit, Denco Air Conditioning, Quality South East, Glanvilles Solicitors.
